Prague Castle is the largest remaining medieval castle complex in the whole of Europe. A sprawling complex that is a definite must see attraction for anyone who visits Prague. Shaped by centuries of history, the complex includes a number of different buildings of great architectural and cultural significance.

Amongst the best known are the Gothic Saint Vitus Cathedral, St. George's Basilica and Golden Lane. Within the courtyards there are a pair of palaces, a monastery, and much more.

Parts of the castle date back to the 9th century. Under Charles IV modern building really began to take shape. In the 14th century many of the current structures were added, and the gothic style was imposed on the building. More buildings have been added over the years and display many different influences. There are some stunning art exhibitions for visitors to see and enjoy within them.

The castle remains an important part of Prague's ceremonial and political life. It is the home of the president. One of the biggest draws for tourists is the changing of the guard. This takes place every hour at the front gate, and features more pomp and ceremony than you can shake a stick at!
