The Astronomical clock on the Old Town Hall Tower dates back to the beginning of the fifteenth century, making it one of the oldest attractions in Prague. The beautiful clock has become a symbol of the city, and simply watching its intricate workings as they show the time and various astronomical phases is an impressive sight.

The highlight of the clock's performance is the hourly procession off the twelve apostles and Jesus as their figurines march from one trapdoor to another across the face of the clock while a skeleton rings a bell to mark the hour.

For a small fee (approximately £1.25), you can enter the clock tower and climb to the top. The views of the Old Town Square are particularly good in the afternoon when the light is at its best for photography.

In 1865, a set of twelve medallions designed by Joseph Manes to represent the signs of the zodiac was added to the tower. These ornate golden designs are impressive to see and really add to the impressive façade of the tower.

There is a tourist office nearby where you can book tours of Prague and get more information about any of the attractions in the city that you want to see.
